The veterinarians at LAH are highly skilled in preforming general surgical procedures including, not limited to:

  • Spays (ovariohysterectomy)
  • Neuters
  • Mass removals
  • Laceration repairs
  • Bladder stone removal
  • Foreign body removal

For specialty surgical procedures our doctors will refer you to a local, board certified veterinary surgeon. In the event that your pet needs to undergo surgery, the LAH team works to ensure the highest level of safety and comfort for your pet. This achieved by preforming pre-operative blood work prior to anesthetic procedures. Based on the lab results, an individualized anesthetic protocol and pain management plan will be selected for your pet. We use the safest anesthetics available and provide multimodal pain management starting before the procedure has even begun. Most surgical patients will receive an intravenous (IV) catheter so warmed IV fluids can be administered. The IV catheter also provides a port in the event of an emergency. Your pet’s heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and body temperature will be monitored and recorded by a dedicated and well trained pet nurse throughout the entire procedure. We have a variety of modern monitoring devices and equipment to aid in providing the best care for your pet including:

  • ECG (electrocardiography)
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Doppler blood pressure monitor
  • Esophageal stethoscopes
  • Body warming devices
  • Incubator
  • IV fluid pumps
  • IV fluid warmer

Once the procedure is complete, your pet will be moved to a recovery kennel with warm, dry bedding. Your pet will be accompanied by a pet nurse until they are fully awake and recovered from anesthesia.
