Acupuncture in Practice: Arthritis!

Welcome to acu in practice! One of the most common conditions we treat with acupuncture in animals is ARTHRITIS! In TCM, we refer to this as “Bony Bi Syndrome.” The Bony Bi occurs as a result of long standing stagnation or reduction in the circulation of Blood and Qi to the affected areas of the body. With acupuncture, we can resolve stagnation and restore proper circulation prior to the development of Bony Bi. This is why it is important not to ignore signs of pain or stiffness. Once the Bony changes have occurred, acupuncture can still greatly minimize symptoms such as pain and swelling, as well as help to slow the progression of the arthritis.
In my practice, I see many rabbits with spinal arthritis. Even though the structure of their bones has been altered, acupuncture and other alternative therapies such as laser and herbal formulas, can greatly improve their comfort and happiness!
